Donate Books
The Literally Healing Program provides free, brand-new books to children and their families each day they spend in the hospital.
Books are taken to the patient’s bedside in our special “Raising A Winning Reader” (RAWR) cart, which is painted to resemble a tiger. These books provide a welcome distraction for patients who must spend many days in recovery, or for family members who remain vigilant at the bedside of their child. Supporting reading opportunities is a meaningful way to have a direct, positive impact on the young patients and families in our care here at CHLA.
Please note: All book donations must be 100% brand-new for infection prevention.
Monetary Donations
Your tax-deductible donation will bring joy and empowerment by widening a patient’s horizon while hospitalized and long after. Monetary funds allow us to purchase books with our nonprofit discount, stretching your donated dollars for the biggest impact.

Book or Gift Card Drives
Invite your community to participate in supporting literacy at CHLA. All book donations must be 100% brand-new for infection prevention. If you have used books, we recommend reaching out to any other wonderful organizations in the Los Angeles area that aren’t in the medical field.
Gift card drives can be a meaningful alternative to traditional book drives, providing us with the ability to address high priority book needs as soon as they arise.
- If you would like to hold a book or gift card drive, email literallyhealing@chla.usc.edu
