American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition
We have maintained American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition® since 2008. Magnet status is only awarded to facilities demonstrating high-quality patient care and nursing excellence—an honor held by only 10% of hospitals nationwide.

Children’s Hospital maintains recognition as one of 100 Great Hospitals in America, according to Becker’s Hospital Review. We are among a small number of children’s hospitals on the list.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)-Funded Research
CHLA routinely ranks among the top U.S. pediatric hospitals for National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant funding. The NIH is the nation’s health care research agency. Our experts participate in prestigious research consortia, giving patients early access to new treatments through clinical trials.

LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader
Children’s Hospital received top marks from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for the past three years. We are among a small number of programs achieving the highest possible score on the Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index. The score is based on criteria that include non-discrimination policies and support for LGBTQ patients.
American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Awards
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award recognizes excellence in patient care. Awardees must demonstrate their ability to use evidence-based practices to improve outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction and credibility with consumers.
CHLA currently has four American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award-recognized units:
- Cardiovascular Acute Care Unit (Gold, through Mar. 2026)
- Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (Silver, through April 2024)
- 5 West (Silver, through April 2024)
- 5 East (Gold, through March 2024)
National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) Award
In 2020, we earned the Press Ganey NDNQI Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality. This award recognizes the highest levels of nursing performance. Children’s Hospital was recognized for maintaining low levels of hospital-acquired complications. This award is a sign of our commitment to high-quality care.
U.S. Best Managed Company
In 2020 and 2021, Children’s Hospital was selected as one of the inaugural U.S. Best Managed Companies by professional services company Deloitte. The award recognizes exceptional management practices that include strategy, execution, culture and financials.
Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award
The CHLA Emergency Department earned the 2019-22 Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award. The Lantern Award signifies exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of nursing leadership, education advocacy and research.
