Abdominal Organ Transplantation

The Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation encompasses Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Kidney, Liver and Intestinal Transplant services. These programs have helped established CHLA as one of the nation’s preeminent pediatric abdominal transplant centers.

Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation: Why Choose Us

Founded in 1967, CHLA’s pediatric Kidney Transplant Program is one of the longest-running programs in the nation. Over the years, the hospital has performed more than 1,700 kidney transplants. Specialists from the hospital’s divisions of Nephrology, Urology and Abdominal Organ Transplantation work together to provide world-class kidney transplant care.

Our Liver Transplant Program has overseen nearly 400 liver transplantation procedures since it was established in 1998. It has become one of the leading programs in the nation with one of the highest rates of successful clinical outcomes.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles performed its first intestinal transplantation in 2004, eventually leading to the hospital’s intestinal and multi-visceral transplant program.

The Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation comprises surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, nurse coordinators, a nurse practitioner, social workers, registered dietitians, a pharmacist and psychologist, as well as support and administrative staff.
