The inpatient Pain Medicine team cares for hospitalized children with:

• Acute exacerbation of chronic pain
• Abdominal pain
• Back pain
• Pain due to chronic medical conditions
• Generalized pain
• Headaches
• Pain due to immobility, deconditioning and trauma
• Post-surgical pain

How We Alleviate Pain

We provide effective pain relief through various treatments including:

• Intravenous medications, including Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pumps
• Oral medications
• Regional anesthetic techniques
  • Epidurals
  • Spinals
  • Peripheral Nerve Blocks
• Topical therapies

Pain Team

The inpatient Pain Medicine team provides comprehensive support for patients with pain. Members of the team include:

• Acupuncturists
• Nurse Practitioners
• Physicians
• Physician Assistants
• Psychiatrists
• Psychologists

Psychiatric and Psychological Support

We offer psychiatric and psychological support to children who are living with pain. We focus on the development of coping skills to further reduce stressors and improve daily functioning.
