The CHLA Program Coordinator is available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to discuss your child’s eligibility and help you navigate the process of scheduling a virtual visit at school. To schedule an appointment, please call the Program Coordinator at 323-284-3829.
What information or documents will I need to schedule a virtual visit?
Please make sure you have your insurance information when you call to schedule a virtual visit. Many insurance plans require a “referral” or “preauthorization.” If your plan requires these, please make sure the referral or authorization is completed before you receive services at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. For more information on requirements, visit CHLA.org/request-appointment.
Does a visit through the Virtual Care at School Program cost money?
A virtual visit at school will be billed just like any other Children’s Hospital Los Angeles appointment. If your insurance provider or health plan does not cover the entire amount for services, you will receive a bill.
Does my child need their own device to connect to their visit?
No. A device will be available at school for your child to complete their virtual visit.
Where will my child access their virtual visit?
A link to access the virtual visit will be sent to your child’s LAUSD email address. A representative from the school will help your child log on and connect to the visit.
Where do I find my child’s LAUSD email address?
In most instances, students use their LAUSD email address frequently. Please ask your child for their email address. If they are unsure, please ask your school’s office.
Can my child take the appointment alone, or does a parent/guardian need to be present?
A parent or guardian is required to be present unless your child is age 18 or older.
How will I receive the link to the virtual visit?
A link will be sent to your requested contact method (text or email) about 20 minutes before the visit. You are expected to join the visit 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Can I reschedule or cancel my child’s virtual visit?
If you need to reschedule or cancel the visit, please call the CHLA Program Coordinator at 323-284-3829 and they will assist you in navigating the process.
How long will the virtual visit be?
The length of a visit will vary depending on the appointment type. When you schedule the virtual visit, a CHLA representative will be able to tell you approximately how long it will last.
Will a school representative join the visit or be in the room with my child during the visit?
No. A school representative will summon your child from class to a private space for the appointment. The representative will help your child connect to the visit, then leave the room.
I’m having trouble accessing my child’s virtual visit. What should I do?
If you are having trouble connecting to the virtual visit, call the CHLA Medical Assistant at 323-302-7247.
I have not received the link to my child’s virtual visit. What should I do?
The link for your child’s virtual visit will be sent to your requested contact method about 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the visit. If you have not received the link 15 minutes before the visit, call the CHLA Medical Assistant at 323-302-7247.
How do I know my child’s health information is protected?
Protecting health information is a priority for LAUSD and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. CHLA will only share the heath information necessary for the coordination of the virtual visit with the school. The school will not have access to information discussed during the visit or any other health information related to your child’s care at CHLA.
How do I provide feedback about the program?
After your virtual visit, the CHLA Program Coordinator will contact you for feedback. To provide additional feedback, call the Program Coordinator at 323-284-3829 or email virtualcareatschool@chla.usc.edu.
