New Director of Congenital Interventional Catheterization to Join Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is pleased to announce that Darren P. Berman, MD, will join the Heart Institute on Aug. 16 as Director of Congenital Interventional Catheterization. Dr. Berman will lead the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab, while also fostering innovative research and championing the translation of new devices and techniques into patient care.
Since 2014, Dr. Berman has been Co-Director of Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Therapy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and he is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and a fellowship in congenital interventional cardiac catheterization at Miami Children’s Hospital. He is Board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric cardiology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Berman is an active researcher with interests in transcatheter valve therapies and device development. He has participated in and led national trials of innovative device treatments for children. His recruitment will broaden the scope of activity at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to include new catheter-based treatments for children and young adults with congenital heart diseases.
The Cardiac Catheterization Lab includes two suites and a host of advanced technologies, including ultra-low radiation capabilities and rotational angiography with 3D imaging of the heart and vessels. The team of leading pediatric interventional cardiologists has one of the best safety records in the country for these minimally invasive procedures.
