About the Fellowship
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles offers a 1-year clinical Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship with exceptional training in outpatient and inpatient pediatric dermatology. Our faculty includes 3 full-time pediatric dermatologists and one pediatric nurse practitioner. CHLA is a free-standing tertiary care children’s hospital in the heart of Los Angeles, providing a highly diverse and robust clinical experience. CHLA is academically affiliated with Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, with our pediatric dermatology faculty serving an active role in the Department of Dermatology at USC. Our division sees approximately 7500 outpatient visits and approximately 250 inpatient consultations per year, providing an excellent training environment, with faculty committed to the education of our fellows.
Why CHLA?
CHLA is the first and largest children’s hospital in Southern California and serves as a primary referral center for this large catchment area. This provides a training environment that is unique in its diversity, as well as vast breadth and depth of clinical experience. CHLA has more than 350 pediatric specialty programs which provide exposure to multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative care. The goal of our fellowship is to provide comprehensive training in pediatric dermatology through exposure to common, complex, and rare pediatric dermatologic conditions, all of which are encountered on any given day of clinic and consults in our children’s hospital.
Learn More about the Training Program
Our fellowship program is approved by the American Board of Dermatology. Pediatric dermatology fellows gain experience with a dedicated continuity clinic, surgical and laser clinics (including cases requiring local and general anesthesia), tri-monthly multi-disciplinary vascular anomalies clinic, dermatologic conditions in skin of color, inpatient consults, dedicated research and academic time, as well as distinct experience at CHLA community satellite clinics with our attending providers. Fellows will become proficient in basic skin scrapings, swabbing, and other specimen collection for KOH, cultures, and hair mounts. Fellows will interact with and have many opportunities to provide bedside and formal teaching to pediatric and dermatology residents and medical students.
Our fellowship directors would be happy to discuss the program further. A great opportunity for this is the Resident and Fellows Reception of the Society of Pediatric Dermatology, held during the annual American Academy of Dermatology meeting. If you are interested in setting up a meeting, please feel free to contact us.
