Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Surgeon Kasper Wang Elected to the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery
Kasper Wang, MD, FACS, FAAP, associate chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), has been elected to the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery (PSB-ABS). He will serve as a representative of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Surgery. His six year term will begin July 1, 2018.

The PSB-ABS consists of members nominated by organizations representative of the pediatric surgery specialty and oversees and determines all requirements and processes related to board certification in pediatric surgery. As part of his duties, Wang will participate in two board meetings each year, as well as reviewing applicants in the Pediatric Surgery Certifying (oral) Exam, which is the final step in a surgeon becoming board certified in pediatric surgery.

Wang is the associate chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and the associate director of the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program at CHLA. He also serves as an associate professor of Surgery and clinical scholar at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Stanford University Hospital and his pediatric surgery fellowship at CHLA in 2004, after which he joined the CHLA staff. He has a broad expertise in general pediatric surgery with a main clinical focus in hepatobiliary diseases of infants and children.
The American Board of Surgery (ABS) is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Board certification by the ABS is a voluntary process that demonstrates a surgeon’s commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality patient care. The ABS offers board certification in surgery (general surgery), vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical critical care, complex general surgical oncology, hand surgery, and hospice and palliative medicine.
