Nurse Practitioner

I am a dedicated Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner recognized for my expertise in neuro-oncology and the management of late effects stemming from cancer treatments in pediatric patients. With a compassionate approach and a commitment to excellence, I have made significant contributions to the field of pediatric oncology nursing and am a valued member of the patient’s care team.

Inspired by family members who suffered from cystic fibrosis, I desired to make a difference in the lives of others. I pursued my nursing education with determination, completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Lynchburg, where I discovered my passion for working with pediatric patients. Driven by a desire to expand my knowledge and capabilities, I went on to earn my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from UCLA, specializing in pediatric nurse practitioner.

I embarked on my professional journey with a focus on pediatric oncology, recognizing the complexities and challenges associated with this special population. I obtained my certification in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing, indicating my specialized training and expertise in this field. Over the years, I have gained invaluable experience working closely with multidisciplinary teams in Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ renowned pediatric oncology center, where I honed my skills in diagnosing, treating, and managing neuro-oncological conditions in children. As a result of my expertise, I have achieved Nurse Practitioner III, a designation within CHLA that recognizes clinicians considered experts within their field.

One of my areas of expertise lies in addressing the late effects of cancer treatment in pediatric patients. I understand the long-term implications of various treatment modalities and provide comprehensive care that addresses not only the immediate challenges but also the potential long-term consequences of cancer therapy. Because I value a holistic approach to care, I strive to improve the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients, beginning at diagnosis. I have specialized training that integrates Healing Touch techniques into my nursing practice to promote healing, relaxation, and overall well-being among my patients. I combine evidence-based nursing interventions with gentle energy-based therapies, such as therapeutic touch, that can address the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing.

In addition to my clinical practice, I am actively involved in research endeavors aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of pediatric neuro-oncology. I have contributed to numerous publications and presentations within the field, sharing my insights and expertise with the broader medical community.

As an advocate for education and mentorship, I am dedicated to nurturing the next generation of pediatric nurse practitioners and healthcare professionals. I regularly participate in educational programs, preceptorships, and mentorship initiatives, guiding aspiring practitioners in the complexities of pediatric neuro-oncology and instilling in them the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care.

I have the goal of excellence in pediatric nursing, particularly in the challenging realms of neuro-oncology and the management of late treatment effects. My unwavering dedication, compassionate approach, and commitment to advancing pediatric oncology nursing make me a true asset to the healthcare community and a valued partner for children and families facing the challenges of childhood cancer treatment.
