Dr. Ross' involvement with CHLA began 41 years ago, when he starated his pediatric internship after graduating from Chicago Medical School. After completing his pediatric residency he pursued a Fellowship in infectious diseases before becoming a staff physician in CHLA's Division of Infectious Diseases and Virology in 1979. Over the years, Dr. Ross has held joint faculty appointments at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and been named a "Los Angeles Super Doctors" and one of the "Best Doctors in the USA" multiple times.
From exploring the clinical manifestations of acute encephalitis and Kawasaki’s disease to preventing hospital-borne infections, Dr. Ross is dedicated to improving infection control standards. Not only has he served on CHLA’s Hospital Infection Control Committee for the last 20 years, he has been a part of CHLA’s outreach team in Mongolia for the last 15. Dr. Ross was instrumental in establishing a Mongolian pediatric residency program and curriculum, and worked tirelessly to improve educational standards for physicians and improve pediatric care. In recognition of his work, Dr. Ross was honored by the Republic of Mongolia with a Silk Route Award for service to the children of Mongolia.
As evidenced by his work in Mongolia, Dr. Ross is passionate about educating the next generation of physicians. He served as both the Intern-Residency Program Coordinator and the program director for the Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases here at CHLA, and received numerous awards for his teaching efforts.
