Nurse Practitioner

I am a pediatric nurse practitioner working in the Division of Dermatology. Before joining the Division of Dermatology, I worked as a primary care provider in a busy federally qualified health center providing primary care services to my patients in South Los Angeles for several years. I hold a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care certification from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. I also maintain certifications as a Certified Health Education Specialist (from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.), Clinical Nurse Leader (from the Commission on Nurse Certification of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing), and a Certified Pediatric Nurse (from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board).

I completed my nurse practitioner training as part of the Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner post-master’s certificate program at California State University, Long Beach. Prior to that I worked as an inpatient nurse at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in the Cardiovascular Acute unit. I obtained my Master of Science in Nursing and Registered Nurse training in the Masters Entry Clinical Nurse Program at the University of California, Los Angeles.

I decided I wanted to become a pediatric nurse after my pediatrics rotation as a nursing student at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I have worked in a variety of settings including research administration, public health research, and teaching and tutoring high school students. Before pursuing my career in nursing, I completed a Global Health Certificate and Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles Fielding School of Public Health as well as a Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. As an undergraduate I studied Spanish and music at Wellesley College. My interest in health and health care began during my time as an undergraduate when I volunteered at a hospital in Boston and spent a summer volunteering at a health clinic in Costa Rica.

My interests include dermatology, general pediatrics, global health, health education, and promoting health literacy. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, cooking, reading, playing music and gardening.
