Ever since I was a child, I've felt a deep calling towards healthcare, a passion that has guided my entire career path. I began my journey at CHLA right after completing nursing school, initially working in a medical-surgical unit before moving to the PICU. My career took a significant turn in 1992 when Dr. Starnes established a cardiac ICU, and I had the privilege of joining this specialized team as a nurse. After advancing my education and obtaining my nurse practitioner degree, I started working directly with the cardiothoracic surgeons, focusing on pediatric cardiac medicine.

My academic background includes degrees in psychobiology and nursing, which have provided me with a solid foundation in understanding the complex interplay between physiology and behavior, especially in critical care settings. This has been invaluable in my current role, where I delve into the intricate anatomy and physiology unique to pediatric cardiac conditions.

What I appreciate most about pediatric cardiac medicine is the opportunity to assist families navigating through some of their most challenging times. The complexity of the cases we handle fascinates me, and there's an indescribable reward in providing knowledge and support to alleviate the anxieties of parents and children facing significant surgeries.

Outside the hospital, I find joy and relaxation in traveling, spending quality time with my family, caring for my Cavalier Spaniels, and indulging in my passion for home decoration. These hobbies provide a wonderful balance to my professional life, allowing me to recharge and return to my patients with renewed energy and empathy.

Helping people in difficult situations, especially through the transformative power of pediatric cardiac care, is not just my job—it's my calling. I'm committed to making a difference, one heart at a time.
