All For One
When it comes to teamwork, CHLA is No. 1
Teamwork is a huge part of life as a nurse at CHLA. On our unit, every morning during rounds, we all come together at our patients’ bedsides. Nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, parents, pharmacists—we’re all there. We discuss the plan for the day and everyone has a chance to give input, including nurses and parents. Parents are an important part of it because they spend so much time with their kids and really see what’s going on. This teamwork approach wouldn’t work at other hospitals, but at CHLA, it’s just who we are.
The commitment to teamwork is a huge part of the CHLA culture. You can tell by the way people smile that we actually want to be here. We show up to work every day wanting to be the best we can be for our patients and families. At the same time, world famous physicians and scientists at Children’s Hospital are conducting groundbreaking research. I think it’s really cool to be part of a hospital that’s held in such high regard. Everyone who works here takes pride in that.
When I first hired at CHLA, I felt like I had landed where I always wanted to be. Now that I’m here, I can tell you it’s even better than I imagined. Eventually I want to go back to school and get certified as a nurse practitioner, and I know CHLA will support me in that journey. The encouragement and support of my goals to become the best nurse I can be is another reason why this place is so great. I’m so happy with my job and the community of people in it. I see myself staying at CHLA for a long time.
