Scott Feder, MD

Dr. Feder is from Westport, Connecticut and studied Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University. He completed his medical training at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate College of Medicine before making his move to California. There, he joined CHLA for his pediatric residency, time as an emergency transport physician, and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship.
His clinical interests include medical education, mentorship, clinician wellness, and simulation. In his free time he enjoys live music, movies, camping, and all that L.A. has to offer.
Christina Park, MD
Medical School: University of Central Florida College of Medicine
Residency: University of California, Los Angeles (Pediatrics)
Christina was born in Massachusetts but was often moving around with her family growing up. After attending high school in Seoul, she then completed her undergraduate studies at Smith College in Neuroscience and Studio Arts. She spent some time doing research in Boston and Chicago before eventually migrating towards warmer weather (and Disney!) for medical school in sunny Orlando. Sticking to the sunny theme, she moved to Los Angeles for residency at UCLA and spent an additional year there as Chief. She continues to explore her academic interests, which include global health and medical education. When she’s not working, she enjoys going to amusement parks, attending live music events, playing video games, and attempting to surf.
Nithya Vijayakumar, MD
Medical School: University of Michigan Medical School
Residency: Children's National Hospital
Nithya grew up in southeast Michigan. She completed her undergrad at Stanford University studying bio-mechanical engineering, and then headed back to medical school at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). She completed Pediatrics residency at Children’s National in DC, and is excited for fellowship here at CHLA. She is interested in research as a tool for advocacy. Her academic interests include social determinants of health, improving health equity both in the clinical setting and in the community, and providing equitable access to a healthy and safe environment. In her free time she enjoys hiking, cycling around town, reading books, and yoga.
Kelly Walters, MD
Medical School: Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science
Residency: University of California San Francisco
Kelly was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota and completed her undergraduate degree in mathematics at Wellesley College. She then moved to the Pacific Northwest, earning her MPH degree at the University of Washington, attended medical school in Chicago and completed her pediatrics residency at UC San Francisco before moving down to Southern California where she is excited to begin her next step of training for a career in PEM. Kelly is interested in quantitative research methods, infectious disease, health equity and public health. Kelly loves being outdoors (especially spending time in the mountains), knitting, her two cats and is an aspiring future dog owner as well.
Matan Paret, MD
Medical School: Sackler School of Medicine
Residency: Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (Pediatrics)
Matan was born in Haifa, Israel, and moved to Mountain View, CA with his family when he was 9 years old. After growing up in and attending high school in the Bay Area, he then completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA in physiology and cheered on the Bruins. After college, he went back to Israel where he attended medical school at Tel Aviv University and then traveled right back to Los Angeles and completed his residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, across the street from CHLA. After residency, he spent the first year working as a pediatric hospitalist and newborn nursery attending in several different locations in Southern California, then the second year as Chief Resident at KP LAMC, and the third year as an attending on the CHLA Emergency Transport team. His research during residency examined the time to diagnosis of biliary atresia in pediatric patients and reasons for delayed diagnosis, and he is excited to explore several research avenues in fellowship including medical education.
Alejandro Hermida, MD
Medical School: University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
Residency: Children's Hospital ot Montefiore (Pediatrics)
Alejandro was born and raised in sunny Miami, FL. He spent some time working as a teacher, before attending medical school at the University of Miami. He then hit the road and completed the Social Pediatrics residency at Montefiore. He joined us in L.A. and couldn't be happier to continue working with a diverse patient population while deepening his interest in the overlap of social and emergency medicine. His academic interests include migrant populations, global communities, and social determinants of health. When he's not working, you can find Alejandro attending live music events, hiking, or exploring the food scene in L.A.
Toshihide Kuroe, MD
Medical School: Semmelweis University Faculty of Medicine
Residency: Flushing Hospital Medical Center (Pediatrics)
Toshi grew up in Kobe, Japan, and completed his medical school in Budapest, Hungary. He then returned to Japan and spent three years in Sapporo for his residency training. He decided to leave his favorite country again and moved to New York for his pediatric residency. He is very excited to start his new journey at CHLA. He is interested in ultrasound and spreading its use in a variety of medical settings. Outside of work, Toshi enjoys playing sports, traveling, and eating good food. His favorite foods in the U.S. so far are tacos from Los Tacos No. 1, burritos from Chipotle, drunken noodles, kung pao chicken, and all the hot dogs he kept eating on his way from NY to L.A.
Haley Thompson, MD
Medical School: New York Medical College
Residency: Children's Hospital Los Angeles (Pediatrics)
Haley grew up moving between California, Michigan and New Jersey. She completed her undergrad at University of Southern California studying neuroscience and Spanish. She returned to the East Coast to attend medical school at New York Medical College before moving back to Los Angeles for residency at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Her professional interests include integrating machine learning and predictive modeling to improve outcomes in the pediatric emergency setting. In her free time, she enjoys live music events, traveling abroad, beach days and snowboarding.
Sofia Cook, MD
Medical School: University of Texas at Houston McGovern Medical School
Residency: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles [Pediatrics]
Sofia grew up in Dallas, Texas. She attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she studied Neurobiology and loved cheering on the Longhorn football team. She then attended medical school at UT Houston McGovern Medical School and completed Pediatrics Residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. During residency, she was involved in advocacy related to gun safety education, along with research in imaging of neck masses in the emergency department and conflict in the workplace. She enjoys eating out at the multitude of restaurants around Los Angeles, going to the Brentwood Farmer’s Market with her husband, drinking wine outside, and riding on her Peloton. She is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her Goldendoodle puppy this fall and is excited for future puppy play dates.
Gabriel Devlin, MD
Medical School: McGill University Faculty of Medicine
Residency: UCSF
Gabriel grew up in Washington, DC. He completed his undergraduate and medical studies at McGill University. After pediatrics residency at UCSF, he worked for two years as an urgent care physician and hospitalist at the San Francisco General Hospital and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, two Bay Area safety net teaching hospitals. His research explores the intersection of medical education, clinical decision-making aids, and the care of under resourced communities. Outside of medicine, he loves mountain adventures, bike packing, and the eternal search for good coffee.
Frank Gonzalez, MD
Frank was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. After completing undergrad at the University of Nevada, Reno he left the Lake Tahoe area and crossed the country to attend Harvard Medical School. He went on to complete residency at Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center before happily relocating to the sunny skies of California. His academic interests include medical education as well as various projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In his spare time, Frank enjoys camping, playing soccer, dancing, and woodworking.
Gwendolyn Hooley, MD
Gwen grew up in Naples, FL. She then attended the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!) where she majored in Biological Sciences and minored in Catholic Social Teaching. After college she moved to New York City where she attended NYU for medical school and went on to complete an emergency medicine residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital. She’s very excited to finally be back in the warm weather! Her academic interests include medical social media, PEM education for emergency medicine trainees, physician wellness, and women in medicine. When she’s not working she enjoys hiking, riding her peloton, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
July Lee, MD
July grew up in Mexico before moving across the border to Calexico, California for the rest of her childhood and teenage years. She trekked her way to Northern California to complete her undergraduate at Stanford University before moving back to Southern California for medical school at UC San Diego. Pediatric residency brought her back to old stomping grounds at Stanford where she stayed on to do a Chief year. And surely, as fate would have it, she is excited to be back in Southern California again and be closer to family, warmer weather, and amazing food! Her academic interests include bridging the healthcare gap for underserved populations, immigrant health, advocacy, and medical education. She enjoys going to church, playing tennis, going to boba and coffee shops, and exploring the food scene!
Anna Cushing, MD
Anna grew up in Washington DC. She completed her undergrad at Stanford before moving back east to attend medical school in New York at Mount Sinai and residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. She is interested in health services research and in developing innovative tech solutions to improve pediatric health care delivery. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, exploring new restaurants, and hiking.
Katherine Harmon, MD
Kate grew up in Laguna Beach, California. She completed her undergraduate career at University of California, Los Angeles (Go Bruins!) and then relocated to Washington, DC to complete medical school at George Washington University School of Medicine. She happily returned to California for pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Her academic interests include medical education and child abuse advocacy. In her free time, she enjoys anything outdoors, travelling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with her loved ones.
Gabriela Moriel, MD
Gabby grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights, California. After high school she attended the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!) to complete undergraduate studies and a Master of Science in Global Health. After enduring five Midwest winters and heartbreaking football seasons, she moved back home to attend the University of Southern California for medical school. She completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and stayed on as an Emergency Transport Attending and Emergency Department Associate for one year before starting fellowship. Her academic interests include quality improvement, global health, and transport medicine. In her free time she enjoys all things outdoors, especially trail running and hiking, spending time with family and friends, and playing with her dog Theo.
