For Patients: Pediatric Heart Research
We are proud to provide excellent outcomes for children through our cardiology research. Our doctors are faculty members of The Saban Research Institute at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the USC Keck School of Medicine, collaborating with experts of both organizations. We pursue the latest innovations in pediatric cardiology because we’re committed to finding the best possible treatments for children.
Cardiology Clinical Trials at the Heart Institute
Research guides our treatment approaches—it helps us find improved ways to treat heart disease and congenital heart defects. Our clinical trial program is a major part of this research.
Many children at the Heart Institute take part in voluntary clinical trials. Sometimes, these trials give children access to new, advanced treatments.
We will work closely with you to explain the treatment and what to expect. If your child isn’t part of a clinical trial, be assured our doctors will still deliver the highest quality care and best treatments available.
If you’re interested in taking part in a clinical trial or would like to learn more, talk with your child’s cardiologist. If you don’t have a CHLA cardiologist, please contact us to set up a new patient appointment.
Ongoing Pediatric Heart Research
Our experts have taken part in and led hundreds of clinical trials for many heart conditions. Research projects at the Heart Institute include:
- First-ever randomized surgical trial for pediatric heart disease, focusing on hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- New treatment for regenerating heart cells using stem cells
- International clinical trial in heart failure prevention
- Methods to improve heart transplantation success
