Sarah Carpenter, MD

I grew up nurturing my love for the arts: singing, dancing, and playing piano and cello—so it came as a surprise in college when I started research at University of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital videotaping morning rounds to study family communication. From behind the camera, I watched attending physicians mold the residents and medical students into self-sufficient providers.

My inspiration led me to medical school at Medical College of Wisconsin and residency at CHLA. There I got to live out the same family-centered rounds I taped as a college researcher. I really enjoyed my NICCU rotations, both for the patient complexity and family dynamics that surround the birth and hospitalization of a new child.

After graduating from residency in 2021, I joined CHLA as a full-time Neonatal Hospitalist. I enjoy teaching and mentoring new hospitalists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. My interests include fluid/electrolyte management in premature infants, streamlining admissions for critical ill emergent transfers, and enhancing family education.
