Gores Family Supports Care for Families Facing Allergies
Even if a child’s food allergy is not life-threatening, a chance encounter with the wrong food can be a scary experience for every member of the family.
CHLA has provided comprehensive support for children battling food allergies for many years. The recent naming of the Gores Family Allergy Center at CHLA represents important news for children suffering from life-threatening food allergies and allergic disorders in Los Angeles—it means that CHLA will expand and enhance the pioneering treatment we provide for children.

Services to Expand
CHLA will expand the services offered by the Gores Family Allergy Center, which will include:
- Hiring an additional allergy specialist
- Providing patients with access to a dietician who will provide nutritional evaluations, patient guidance and education on food-avoidance measure
- Providing access to a licensed psychologist will help support the emotional needs of patients and families
- Hiring a registered nurse will coordinate clinical studies on innovative treatment for food allergies
In addition, our patients will continue to have access to other specialists in dermatology, gastroenterology and psychology, to name a few. The Center is also planning community outreach to local Los Angeles schools to ensure staff and students are educated about allergies.
