Office of Advanced Practice

Advanced practice providers (APP) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles are members of multidisciplinary health care teams who provide and coordinate specialized, high-quality and compassionate care to patients. APPs are nurse practitioners, certified nurse anesthetists and physician assistants who use their advanced education and extensive experience to deliver comprehensive care for children, adolescents and young adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has more than 200 APPs working across the institution.

The Office of Advanced Practice is dedicated to fostering and elevating the voices of APPs at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Recognizing and appreciating the value of our APPs, our team is committed to supporting the highest standard of clinical practice and professionalism through collaboration and innovation across the hospital system.

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with a graduate degree and advanced training. Our NPs are skilled providers who are experts in patient assessment, laboratory and diagnostic interpretation, diagnosis of disease and the development and prescribing of treatment plans. NPs can function as primary care providers or as collaborative members of the specialized health care team who are able to practice independently and in collaboration with a physician.

Physician Associates/Assistants (PA)

A physician associate/assistant is a medical professional who diagnoses illness, develops and manages treatment plans, prescribes medications, and often serves as a patient’s principal health care provider. With a graduate degree and thousands of hours of training, PAs are versatile and collaborative.
