
Elizabeth Burgener, MD
Elizabeth B. Burgener, MD, is a pediatric pulmonologist and physician scientist. She is Associate Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Development Center for CHLA. She is also Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC. At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles she cares for patients with pulmonary disease such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other systemic illnesses that affect pulmonary health. In her laboratory she conducts translational research focused on chronic airway infection.

Paula Hsu, MS
Paula Hsu is a research specialist who has both a Master’s degree in microbiology and in management of drug development. She brings over 10 years of microbiological laboratory experience to the lab. Paula is our acting lab manager and leads our current wet bench efforts.

Jeeyeon Kim, DO
Jeeyeon Kim is a current clinical fellow in pediatric pulmonary medicine. In addition to her clinical training, Jeeyeon brings research experience from the Wine Lab at Stanford University where she worked on early studies of the sweat gland response to early CFTR modulators. Jeeyeon is supported by a Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Fellowship Training and Education Award.

Henry Barnes
Henry Barnes is a current sophomore at the University of Southern California majoring in human biology with a minor in business. He is a trumpet player in the USC marching band. Fight On! He joined the Burgener Lab in the winter of 2023 and is managing our Respiratory Specimen Biorepository Database and dabbling in computational biology related to bacteriophage.

Kayla Jung
Kayla Jung is a is a current junior at University of Southern California, majoring in human biology with a minor in Art. She joined in summer of 2023 after recently studying abroad in Europe. She is studying chronic Pseudomonas infection in pediatric patients with tracheostomy tubes.
