Aerodigestive Disorder Information for Medical Professionals
The Aerodigestive Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is one of the most established and experienced programs in California and the nation. We’re a top regional referral center for children with complex breathing, swallowing and feeding issues.
Aerodigestive Program: Why Refer to Us
Our doctors have decades of experience diagnosing all types of pediatric aerodigestive disorders. We work closely with referring providers to give ongoing, comprehensive care to children with common and complex aerodigestive disorders.
Patients referred to our Aerodigestive Program benefit from:
- Dedicated aerodigestive care team and clinic: Our program features a dedicated aerodigestive clinic. Patients see a pediatric gastroenterologist, otolaryngologist and pulmonologist during the same visit. Our care team also includes anesthesiologists, speech-language pathologists, respiratory care practitioners and nutritionists who specialize in aerodigestive disorders. Meet our aerodigestive team.
- Deep diagnostic expertise: Our team uses advanced diagnostic tests to pinpoint the cause of a child’s symptoms. We’re among a select few centers nationally performing three endoscopic procedures (a triple scope) during one outpatient visit. We also offer a complete suite of pulmonary function tests and imaging scans and infant sleep studies. See how we diagnose aerodigestive disorders in children.
- Care for complex conditions: We diagnose and provide care for all types of aerodigestive disorders, including chronic conditions such as tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). We serve as a medical home for children with TEF, providing long-term testing and care. Learn more about the aerodigestive disorders we treat.
- Nationally recognized programs: Our pediatric pulmonology and gastroenterology (GI) and GI surgery care are among the best in the nation, as rated by U.S. News & World Report. CHLA is also among the top children’s hospitals in the country and best in California. See our specialty care rankings.
Aerodigestive Disorders Research and Clinical Trials
Our specialists are active in the international Aerodigestive Society. Our team’s research efforts at The Saban Research Institute are advancing the understanding and care of pediatric aerodigestive disorders. We’re also active in clinical trials and maintain a patient database at CHLA for research purposes.
