Advanced Training in Pediatric Medical Simulation
The Las Madrinas Simulation Center at CHLA offers unique medical education opportunities for fellows, PhD candidates, residents and medical students. It is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare™ and among the nation’s few centers dedicated to pediatrics. Emergency medicine expert Todd Chang, MD, MAcM, directs fellowship and medical education activities.
Learning experiences can be tailored to your career goals and may involve:
- Developing simulation strategies using mannequins, task trainers, virtual reality technology and the latest research-based education techniques
- Designing curricula for a variety of pediatric trauma and acute care scenarios and bedside procedures
- Conducting and publishing simulation research projects
- Collaborating with national and international medical simulation experts
- Creating pediatric anatomy models using a 3D printer in our wet lab
- Serving as a resource to simulation participants and guest observers
The Las Madrinas Simulation Center
Our 5,000-square-foot facility opened in 2022. It includes four patient rooms with audio-visual capabilities, debriefing rooms and a wet lab with a 3D printer. Clinical spaces replicate a variety of settings, including an operating room, trauma bay, intensive care unit room and medical-surgical rooms. Find out more about our simulation facilities.
Learners undergo exceptional medical simulation experiences due in part to the breadth of mannequins and equipment we offer. Options include low-, medium- and high-fidelity newborn, baby and child mannequins as well as task trainers. CHLA is also at the forefront of virtual reality medicine with a dedicated room and technologies. Simulations are available through a broad range of courses and custom learning programs.
